as though it MEANS something? (I've always been amused that the language artifact "getting down to brass tacks" as a synonym for "getting really serious" continues in the language -- even though I can NEVER find anyone who has a believable explanation of what it meant originally!)

It just rattles me to hear "tax-and-spend liberal" these days, since apparently the liberals are the only ones worrying about the horrible debt our country is accruing.

I feel that * put a lot of time and effort into his (unsuccessful) efforts to "privatize" Social Security, and since he never reconsiders a decision or an opinion, he's now trying a different tack to destroy SS -- bankrupting the country.
