Powell Rebuts Media Claims That He Supports Surge

Alleged AP Media Bias Swings Other Direction Today

By CHRISTINA DAVIDSON 02/23/2007 5:48 PM ET

In a juxtaposition of the latest trends in blogo-activism against the mainstream media, liberal website ThinkProgress has challenged the accuracy of an AP article, resulting in its alteration.

The original article this morning, from the local Lafayette and run by AP, stated in its lead that Powell, while speaking to an audience at Purdue University, said he supports sending more American soldiers to Iraq.

Since this contradicts earlier things Powell has said, ThinkProgress called his office this morning to check on the abrupt shift in the former Secretary of State's thinking. They learned that Powell hadn't changed his mind, but the media had gotten it wrong.

The article was subsequently changed to read that Powell told the audience that it seems the United States will send more troops to Iraq, whether the public likes it or not.
