Chapel Hill/Carrboro really is a special place. Great town, great people, lots to do, good restaurants, free public transit system.

Not to mention the basketball: UNC men and women ranked #2 right now. BTW former BB coaches Dean Smith and Bill Guthridge are each good Dems (contributions show on the linked site). They actually integrated the last area restaurants back in the 1960's with Charlie Scott.

We talk a lot here (endless local government meetings), but we backup our talk with our time and our money. Our bus system is free for everyone (exceptions for shuttles to special events/games), we recycle so much that tipping fees could no longer pay the expenses of the recycling program (we now have a "tax" instead), and we can recycle almost everything.

Good schools, good quality of life, great University and medical complex, strong commitment to others. Search for the "Carolina Covenamt" to see how we ensure that students from our poorest families will graduate without and student loans or other debt. Without that, UNC is rated the best value among our nations universties, year after year.

Jesse Helms hated us, both The University and the town. We wear that distinction as a badge of honor.

Many of our neighbors are working to do their part, too. Durham, in particular.

If you are ever visiting, email me and I would be glad to introduce you to my neighborhood.

BTW it is nearly time for the women's BB team to beat NC State.
