teens hit by Train

May 29, 2008 10:41am
TWO teenage girls who were hit by a freight train may have fallen asleep on the tracks while sunbathing, emergency workers said.

Rachel Brown and Destiny Phaneuf, both of Lebanon in Miami, were lying on a train trestle at a popular swimming spot when they were hit by the train yesterday.

Witnesses said they heard the girls, who are both in a critical condition after suffering amputations, scream, and saw them try to move before they hit.

Phaneuf was unconscious when authorities arrived; Brown told police that the pair had fallen asleep while sunbathing, he said.
