"I wish I had my vote back"

Over dinner with my one conservative friend he told me, "I wish I had my vote back". We talked and talked for months, he agonized over who to vote for. In the end he did what most republican/conservatives do and that is vote republican. The messages from the right were just too hard to overcome and abortion is a huge deal to him. The media he chose to listen to led him down a path of lies and misstatements. He was sold the brand of fear, the label of intolerance.

I thought for a while, and simply said, "It must be hard now knowing you chose something that was the opposite of history making. Years from now, if this president turns out like I think he will, you will have to say you voted against it. When your kids ask about this election you may be ashamed of your answer. Voting with your past and others thoughts you denied your heart's choice. Your heart knew the right answer."

I would hate to think I wasn't part of this historic event or that I voted against it. I wonder how many of the other 47% feel about turning their backs on something so important to this nation because of one issue? Whatever the issue, race, life, religion, guns. even war, I know I made the right choice.
