21. It was a press conference. The thrower is a journalist.
He was in the room with a bunch of other journalists, actually farther away from Bush than many of the others; from the tape it looked like he was at least 20 feet away. I'm assuming everyone in the room was screened and searched for weapons, but were allowed to keep their shoes. Shoes are not weapons, but in Islamic cultures they are used to express disgust and disdain. This particular journalist had been kidnapped and beaten, as had some of his friends and family. What happened was not surprising under the circumstances, but it was certainly not staged. I'm not the "innocent" one here.
