38. Some of what you say is correct.
I absolutely DO NOT equate gay marriage "rights" and African-American voting rights. I think it's the most bogus comparison I've ever heard of.

I believe that lynching a black person should be classified a hate crime, and that beating a gay person to death should be classified the same way.

I think that discriminating against a gay person in terms of housing or employment is a clear civil rights violation.


But that's where I draw the line on "civil rights". There are a lot of PRIVILEGES that our country has decided should go to married people. But not "rights". I think it makes sense to find ways to extend these privileges to committed same-sex couples who are legally contracted.

But I absolutely refuse to call marriage a "civil right".

For some reason, this makes me homophobic. I think that's laughable, but everyone has a right to their own opinions.
