In case anyone is tempted to draw any conclusions from this article, I would be careful. It combines basically anecdotal data with broad population data. It also mixes various definitions of "savings". And much of it focuses on Boise, which is hardly representative of the US at all. It also makes no attempt to discuss why debt may be declining, or their various definitions of "savings" might be climbing. Spending habits tend to be a bit like New Years resolutions, all the rage for a few months and then folks slip back into their old habits.
