because your coworkers were indeed totally racist, but I hear the same thing from my older relatives (60s, 70s, 80s), and I can tell you they honestly don't think they're saying anything wrong. I can't tell you how many times I have been forced to hear an older relative say "You know, Gwen, that nice black girl..." when there is NO NEED to point out her skin color. I have been calling them on this shit for years, and they are repeatedly taken aback--look of profound shock and confusion and "What? What'd I say?" :eyes:

Yeah, it's a cultural thing. But that's no reason to keep letting them get away with it. Time marches on.
