I've been in Montana for three weeks working on the Sacajawea project as well as tribal recognition for the Lemhi Shoshone. Some of us have refused to use the "Mormon" name of Lemhi and now use the ancestral name of Agai'dika. I only use the "Mormon" name here to make the distinction.

Some of the students have been working on plans to secure a national park in honor of Sacajawea. We also hope to secure tribal recognition for her people, the Agai'dika. I was asked to document the field school via photography and video. I just had a real bath for the first time in three weeks, that was no match for the beauty of the Agai'dika people.

Sacajawea's people are NOT federally recognized as a tribe anymore, they must share a reservation in Idaho. the United States saw fit to put her on currency but NOT recognize her people. if you feel strongly about this please write your Congresspeople and demand they act now. It's also time to recognize Sacajawea with a park, there are many beautiful locations to chose from. Not only will it unite people, it will create jobs for the region. Think of the CCC or the WPA.
