9. i don't know if this tracks exactly with your really wonderful post, but i was thinking today that
our Senate has become the US version of the House of Lords, which makes the House equivalent to the House of Commons. broad strokes, but the point is that once they are granted entrance to the US House of Lords, they pledge alliegiance to the values of Lords and not the values of the "commons."

and, it's pure narcissicism, i think, enabling that affiliation. once admitted into this "elevated" group (or any elevated group) sociopathic behavior becomes "the way things are done," and anyone who says otherwise is naive.

i guess what i'm rolling around to is that the system is structured to reward sociopathic behavior of the "nobility" and so when we see this sort of disease in our workplace/etc it's from those who identify with the "Lords" -- ladder climbers, sycophants, etc.
