on Conan O'Brien's show, I believe it was, the night before the televised debate. He said that the doctrine had caused him pain or sorrow or some such (I watched the show, but can't find a reference to it on line), and the emotional reponse he described was plainly joy/relief at the change.

Whether the story is true, or that was his response to the change, I wouldn't know.

A bunch of us did drive down the highway honking our horn and waving our arms madly when the news came over the radio that the Shah of Iran had died ...
