42. You don't want to have to pluck the feathers off anyway.
You have to dunk the bird into hot water to loosen the quills. It is a stench you will remember the rest of your life.

There's two ways to slaughter the bird. You can wring its neck, or you can chop or cut it off. A basket comes in handy to keep it from flopping around the yard. You put the basket over the body of the bird, cut off the head and hold the basket down until it stops struggling. If you have a youngster, have them sit on the basket.

There's a couple ways to wring its neck. You can hold it by the head and swing it around, or you can grab, pull and twist. Whatever floats your boat.

Fresh, grass fed chicken is delicious, so are eggs still warm from the hen.

BTW, get your hubby "The Omnivore's Dilemma" by Michael Pollan.

If you have neighbors nearby, they may not like the crowing of a cock, or the call of the Guinea Hen.

If your hubby is fine with the slaughter and cleaning of birds, let him have a go at it. the heart, gizzard and liver are very tasty and should be retained.

Killing and plucking video. Not for the squeamish.

It ain't pretty, but if you eat meat, you have to be at peace with killing.
