On Wednesday, former Justice Department official Monica Goodling said that Graves’ being forced out of office in early 2006 “related more to the fact that he was under investigation by the inspector general.”
But she did not say and was not asked what the investigation had involved. On Thursday, Graves said the inspector general’s announcement buttressed his version of events.
"This proves that the claim Monica Goodling casually tossed out against me ... was scurrilous and irresponsible, but I guess that's the state of Washington politics," Graves said. "I won’t bother waiting by my phone for an apology."Graves also released the 10-page inspector general’s report, with some of the names blacked out. It concluded that Graves had not violated the law or department regulations by appearing at a 2002 fundraiser for his brother, Rep. Sam Graves. At the Westin Crown Center event, Todd Graves had his picture taken with Vice President Dick Cheney.
