I'm seeing a recurring theme in the posts on this subject, and it's just not going to happen.

There were more than a few posters on DU who characterized the $700B bailout as "necessary" and "the only solution," sometimes even going so far as to question the intelligence and / or reasoning powers of anyone who questioned giving Paulson & Co carte blanche.

And the government danced around the "we're not gonna let them keep their golden parachutes" talking point, but there's a long list of perks and spa retreats that made it under the radar.

So no, the treatment of the Auto Industry CEOs is not the same treatment that the financial CEOs received. And it will continue to be that way. The thinking in our current government is that Wall Street needs to be protected. I haven't heard concern for "working Americans" other than as an afterthought in one of Bush's weekly radio addresses.
