2. Cuba needs more subsidies from kindred governments, more aid, more cooperative projects
with countries and peoples who support social justice and peace, and better remuneration for its topnotch medical care provided to the poor in other countries and in medical flights to Cuba, and its topnotch literacy program, and other help, in recognition of Cuba keeping alive the ideas of universal free medical care and universal free education through college and post-graduate studies, in Latin America, and to compensate Cuba for 50 years of the cruel and punishing and insane U.S. embargo and for the cost of being targeted as an "enemy" by the biggest war machine and corporate powermonger the world has ever seen.

Every poor person in Latin America, in countries like Venezuela and Bolivia, who now has medical care, who never had any medical care before, and every student and graduate whose educations have been paid for by their government, owes Cuba a thank you. Those ideas were dead during the long period of fascist dictatorships and rightwing/"free trade for the rich" governments, dominated by the U.S. and the World Bank/IMF. The rich looted public services, ravaged the poor and nearly destroyed many countries. Leftist governments are correcting these horrors and have been inspired by Cuba's social programs and Cuba's spunk--its heart, its soul--in the face of so many difficulties.

We, too, in this country, now devastated by the the super-rich, multinational corporations and war profiteers, owe Cuba, for keeping alive these ideas, and implementing highly successful medical and educational programs, providing the example that this is possible. Cuba has maintained the notions of social responsibility for "all God's children," decency and compassion, in a bloody world wilderness of predatory capitalism and war. If we can ever get our democracy back--and achieve a government that is worthy of our peoples' generosity and open-mindedness--we ought to PAY REPARATIONS TO CUBA for CIA bombings/murders, invasion and spying, the insane mbargo and the utter slander that our government and media have hurled at this tiny, brave country.

It is a nasty, cruel rightwing viewpoint that Cuba ought to be punished by neglect. If the U.S. can give $7 BILLION goddamn taxpayer dollars in military aid to Colombia--where the military is murdering trade unionists, human rights workers, teachers, community activists, journalists, peasant farmers and other good people--we can bloody well compensate Cuba for what we did to it under the hellish Batista regime and for what we've done to it since.
