Let's see, there was the 3/5 compromise - a way for southern states to have more representation by declaring that slaves were 3/5 of a person.

Oh, and then there was the compromise that the U.S. would be allowed to participate in the international slave trade until 1808 - wrong, I know, but don't you know they needed to COMPROMISE.

And let's not forget that pesky part that said escaped slaves had to be returned to their masters, even if they managed to make it to a non-slave state.

Yup, the nation was founded on compromise, President Obama.
