Gas Prices to Hit Record This Year: AAA
NEW YORK (Reuters) - U.S. gasoline prices are almost certain to hit fresh record highs this spring or summer when motorists hit the roads for vacation season, the AAA auto group said on Thursday.

"All of the dynamics are in place for U.S. motorists to pay new record high prices again this year," said Geoff Sundstrom, spokesman for the AAA.

U.S. average pump prices for self-serve gas are currently $1.92 a gallon, about 13 cents below the all-time record hit last May and 22 cents higher than a year ago, the AAA said in its daily survey on Thursday.

Sundstrom said a spike in U.S. gasoline futures to new peaks on the New York Mercantile Exchange and soaring costs for crude oil, the feedstock refiners use to make fuel, had already caused some pump prices to rocket higher...

Hey Cheney...how's that whole energy plan thingie going ? Got anything worked out yet? I mean, besides conquering Iraq, because obviously that hasn't been a great deal of help...

8. They're pushing hard to open ANWR for
drilling. 4 years ago I looked up ANWR and saw all kinds of great info on the gov't website, how much oil there was, etc. I looked it up again a few days ago and that info has changed completely.

7. I feel strangely not comforted.
Reminds me of Dad telling me how much farther he had to walk to get to school. :)

10. It's not only SUV drivers that are wasting gas. What about
those who live an hour or more from work?

What about those who use a car for a trip that could just as easily be walked or biked?

What about those who do not seek out co-workers who live near them so they can car-pool and thus save money and gas. I take the bus and I notice that a good 95% of cars have only one person in them. That is terribly inefficient.

We all share responsibility for wasting oil and gas. I guess it's just easier to pick on SUV drivers.

9. You know what I don't feel sorry for people who
drive large inefficient cars or SUVs. A co-worker just bought an SUV and the mileage is 20/27. That is horrible. I dare her to complain about high gas prices.

It takes me awhile to get to and from work but I'll continue buying my bus pass ($50/month) and riding my BIKE part of the way to work.

I just wonder how is it that people can still afford new cars with the attendant increase in auto insurance rates and the car payments?

When will people advocate for sustainable and convenient mass transit?

11. $1.92 would be a bargain here in California -- I just paid $2.34 in the LA
suburbs. Why do we always get ripped off on energy stuff???
