Car bomb explodes on Baghdad's northern side; 4 hurt UPDATE
BAGHDAD (AFX) - A car bomb has exploded near a Sunni mosque in Baghdad's Bab al-Moazam area on the capital's northern side, wounding at least four people, a source at the interior ministry told Agence France-Presse.

The blast happened at about 8:30 am (0530 GMT) near the Adilah Khatoun mosque in this predominantly Sunni Muslim area of the capital adjacent to the Al-Adhamiyah district. A large plume of white smoke was seen rising from behind the Madinat al-Tob, Medical City complex, a building on the eastern bank of the Tigris.

Two of the capital's main bridges in the centre were closed Tuesday as part of tighter security measures one day before the newly-elected parliament was scheduled to meet inside the fortified Green Zone. A massive truck bomb attack in Baghdad last Wednesday against a western hotel killed four and wounded 40, including 30 US contractors.

2. We can't even maintain order in the capitol...
Why don't the majority of Americans see that as a problem as we approach the 2nd anniversary of war?

Random violence a part of Baghdad life

PATRICK QUINN

Associated Press

BAGHDAD, Iraq - When Adnan Shalaal left his job at the Sheraton Hotel on Friday afternoon, he went from being a valued employee and father of three to a statistic on a police blotter - one of dozens recorded daily in one of the world's most dangerous cities.

Shalaal and his three young children inadvertently drove through a shootout between insurgents and police. The 30-year-old hotel administrator was shot in the head, his blood and brains splattering over the youngsters. Although his children were unharmed, Shalaal was not expected to survive.

By day or night, Baghdad has become a cacophony of automatic weapons fire, explosions and sudden death, its citizens living in constant fear of being shot by insurgents or the security forces meant to protect them.

Streets are crammed with passenger cars fighting for space with armored vehicles and pickup trucks loaded with hooded and heavily armed Iraqi soldiers. Those who dare to drive worry about car bombs, as well as roadside bombs targeting Iraqi forces and their American allies. More worrisome still: the risk of being shot by U.S. troops who could mistake them for suicide attackers.

Hundreds of bombs in recent months have made mosques, public squares, sidewalks and even some central streets extremely dangerous places in Baghdad.

6. Revenge attack?
If this isn't an accident or a misfire, it looks like the shi'ah have finally gotten sick of Sunni-made bombs exploding at their mosques and funerals.
