C-I to consider eliminating third of teaching staff (teachers / MN)
The Crosby-Ironton School Board Monday is expected to vote on the elimination of 35 percent of its striking teaching staff.

The board will meet 7 p.m. Monday at the Deerwood Auditorium. According to the meeting agenda, board members will vote on whether not to renew the contracts of four non-tenured striking teachers, place 26 striking teachers on unrequested leaves of absence and eliminate extended teaching contracts for seven striking teachers. <snip>

According to the agenda, the board Monday also will vote on adopting resolutions to discontinue and reduce educational programs and positions. <snip>

While teachers' union representatives said they anticipated there would be striking teachers placed on unrequested leaves of absence, they said they were surprised that so many teachers made the list.

"What it means to anybody looking at this list is .. the complete destruction of the school district," said Doug Mayfield, a striking C-I teacher and chief union negotiator. "We regard this as a reprisal ... " <snip>

1. So do they think there is a line of people wanting
teaching jobs in their district? A long line? A line of 37 teacher candidates?

2. I think they've had trouble finding licensed "replacements" and ...
... tried to cook up some bogus argument about how the school district could offer "temporary" licenses.

8. It is the typical crap
but their ideas to hire new 'teachers' are being thwarted by NCLB, the very law they most likely supported. It is coming back to bite them big time.

11. Ya got any evidence that Hatch's opinion is based on NCLB? A link, say?

12. Who's Hatch?

NCLB has tightened the certification requirements for teachers. It isn't easy to hire 'replacements', not like it used to be.

13. An NCLB homepage doesn't really qualify as a link establishing ...
... your earlier claim that temporary licenses can no longer be offered, since no evidence supporting your claim appears on the page.

"Who's Hatch?" Do you read links before you argue about their content?Cf post #5.

14. I read it but didn't remember that name.
You don't have to believe me about NCLB. I really don't care. I tried to explain that NCLB is very strict about licensing teachers. Now am I going to go through all 350 pages online and find that specific part? No.

15. If you're gonna tell me that NCLB is protectin strikin teachers ...
... then, yeah, I think you oughta be able to document your claim.

The teachers I've talked to, all think NCLB is a crock.

And it seems real unlikely that W the Pretender woulda pushed legislation havin the effect of protectin teachers from being bumped out by replacement workers in case of a strike.

This ain't about what I "believe": it's just a simple matter of you bein able to back up claims you make about the allegedly glorious benefits of a sh*t law.

16. It isn't protecting striking teachers
at least not deliberately.

I will say this for the third time - NCLB makes it harder to give out temporary certification. That's all. I am not trying to take sides or justify anything either side has said. Just that it will be hard to replace these teachers if they are fired.

18. Sorry if I misunderstood ya. When ya wrote ...
... "Temporary licenses are a thing of the past since bush's education law took effect" in post #4, it somehow gave me the idea you was sayin there ain't no more temporary licenses with NCLB, which I'm purdy sure ain't true.
