As of Tuesday, April 5, 2005, at least 1,542 members of the U.S. military have died since the beginning of the Iraq war in March 2003, according to an Associated Press count. At least 1,169 died as a result of hostile action, according to the Defense Department. The figures include four military civilians.

1. We're at war? Our kids are dying?
I thought we had liberated and freed that country, and Afghanistan.

Why are we still dying or why are we still there?

4. Its more than 8000. If they lift you off the ground and you are still
breathing, you aren't counted as KIA. If you commit suicide or get killed in an accident, you aren't counted as KIA. If you are dead on the ground when they come for you, that is the only counted KIA. There are
eight times what they report killed.

6. That is NOT true.

And I sure wish people would quit spewing this utter rot.

ALL soldiers who die from WOUNDS INCURRED in Iraq, REGARDLESS of where they actually die, are counted.

And that FACT is very easily seen as FACT if one bothered to actually read through the ICCC's release notices; one would notice all the "died in X hospital from wounds suffered in Iraq".

Suicides committed IN Iraq ARE counted.

Suicides committed outside of Iraq are not.

THERE IS NO WAY THE MILITARY COULD POSSIBLY HIDE SOLDIERS' DEATHS. They may get away with hiding a handful; but "eight times what they report"??? NO FUCKING WAY.

Here's one article I had on hand; I'll have to ask Pat tomorrow if she can search the ICCC database for the others.

From Stars & Stripes;

At least three families decided to withdraw life support once their soldier or Marine was returned to the United States, Gullick said, and some have said it was no comfort to see them again; they would rather have remembered them as they were, not so horribly damaged.

Yes the soldiers are counted.

Oops had another one in my file;

Spc. Seth Garceau, 22, was removed from life–support early Friday morning and died three hours later.

7. No.
Soldiers who commit suicide back home are not counted as Killed In Action.

8. They didn't "die." They were killed.
And it's at least 1542 REPORTED. No one know the truth about how many US military have been killed and no one counts those wounded who died stateside.

9. Sigh.
YES they DO count ALL TROOPS who die, REGARDLESS of where they die, IF they sustain mortal wounds in Iraq.

But WHY do I bother posting this any more? I guess becauswe I spend many hours of every frigging damned day of the past 2 years counting soldiers' deaths and it really pisses me off when people post this crap.

So please, pardon my poor manners and bad temper on this subject, it's a pet peeve of mine; and regardless, the ICCC will continue to spend many hours of every day counting soldiers' deaths to ensure that ALL soldiers who are wounded in Iraq and die from those wounds, REGARDLESS of where they actually die, are included in the DOD tally.
