http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=571&ncid=751&e=1&u=/nm/20050405/hl_nm/zinc_teens_dcZinc-fortified foods may help seventh graders perform better in school, according to study findings presented at the Experimental Biology 2005 meeting in San Diego.
In a 10-week study of 209 seventh graders, those who consumed fruit juice supplemented with zinc cut their reaction time on a visual memory test by 12 percent compared with 6 percent for students who received regular juice.
They also had more correct answers on a word recognition test and had better scores on a task requiring sustained attention and vigilance.
However, test performance did not improve significantly in students who were already meeting recommended daily allowances for zinc intake. This is a very interesting study.

Hypozincasiasis? Maybe it's a side-effect of ending the alphabet with "W"?

2. Brought to you by the Zinc Council... |

...Who used to say that taking lots of Zinc would put LOTS of lead in your "pencil".
When I was a kid, there was a story going around that the Army was pushing zinc pills on the boots so that if they were taken by the VC, Charlie would be un-nerved by the tremendous size of the American Trouser Snake...
Zinc is an important trace mineral, no denying, and today's over-processed "Thickburger" 100% USDA-Approved Pure SHIT diet isn't helping, either. I'm just saying Minerals get pushed as cure-alls a lot...

3. And what was the affect on the libidos of the teens who took it? |
|
Not sure that the 6% improvement in memory would justify more raging hormones in that particular group.
