Mobile phones "safe for brains" (BBC News)
(Danish study? Ya think it was sponsored by NOKIA?)

Mobile phones 'safe for brains'

Using a mobile phone does not increase the risk of developing a brain tumour, the latest research suggests.

Monday, 11 April, 2005, 23:55 GMT 00:55 UK

The Danish study, which appears in the journal Neurology, involved more than 1,000 people. But the authors say long-term data is still needed because the technology has not been around long enough to know for sure if mobiles cause any ill health. They recommended people use hands-free kits to cut the amount of radiation entering the brain.

UK experts have recommended children should also limit the amount of time they spend using mobiles as a precautionary measure. The UK government commissioned an independent group, led Sir William Stewart, to look into the safety of mobile phones in the late 1990s. Its latest review of the evidence also suggests mobile phones do not harm health.

The debate over the safety of mobile phones continues because it is still not absolutely resolved whether or not the electromagnetic radiation emitted from mobile phone handsets is harmful to humans. There have been claims that it could affect the body's cells, brain or immune system and increase the risk of developing a range of diseases including cancer.

Limit use

A Swedish study published in 2002 claimed to have found a link between analogue mobile phones and brain tumours, but experts have questioned the validity of the findings because of the way the research was carried out.

1. Every new tech we get
is supposedly gonna kill us.

I remember when TV was gonna do us all in, and you had to sit far away from the set to be safe.

Nokia is from Finland.

2. Hmm...they say it's safe, but better use a hands-free set to be safe.
"We advise all people who use a mobile phone to use a hands free set. It reduces exposure."
- Study author Dr Christoffer Johansen

Doesn't sound like they're very confident in their conclusions does it.

this is a stupid study.

5. Because it's safe in the short term; they don't know about the long term
"In our study, few people reported regular cell phone use for 10 years or more. So we still do not know the full story."

Long term problems are always difficult to predict - do you wait 40 years while you test your phones on volunteers, and only then release them to the public - or do you allow everyone to have a phone, and keep an eye on the disease rates?

4. oh, i don't know... i think it really depends on who you are talking to.
i've received some calls that are definitely NOT safe for my brains.

8. Dead atomic scientists
People who should have known better had no data about too much radiation(beyond normal sources), but as time went on after the Curies died people made judgments by desire not caution or logic. Those were scientists.

Despite our advanced knowledge of nearly the exact results of suprassing a radiation threshold the public LIKE their phones. Small wonder that warnbigns are merely a shrug and sop to the conscience offering nettlesome precautionary measures that sap the fun and convenience of these cell blasting leaky tools.

It's more like developing a risk of becoming brainless altogether regarding the world you live(an ever shortening span of years)in. Instead of Danish Halvarti running out your ears it will be Swiss cheese with hard lumps.

9. Tom Hayden on Link Tv Sunday
Showed data, and had many victims of cell phone induced brain tumors, always on the prefferable side the phones were held to, a cooincidence, I don't think so.

Even though most phones emit 1/2 of the allowed radiation, people still had the tumors.

Microwaves break apart molecular chains, the same as microwave cooking, broken protein chains then being abnormal begin endoblast construction, or a tumor.

Hayden said cell phones are the next tobacco co stonewall, they have $$$ to fight lawsuits for 30 years, then a safer technology will appear, for now they know the phones are cancer causers , but are so popular people choose to believe the phone companies, just as they believed the tobacco cos. lies.

10. Anyone who has eve seen what rf energy can do to cells wouldn't use acell
phone,

Ever.

Predictions are made that in the next five to ten years we will be seeing a pandemic of brain cancer cases. They will appear mostly above and behind the ear.

And always ask who paid for the study.

Oh, and what will the cell comapanies do when hit by millions of suits for causing these tumors when studies showed what would happen? Why, they'll seek protection under bankruptcy. The protection we no longer havee.

Will hundreds of thousands of deaths to further corporate greed be enough to spark the 2nd American Revolution? It'll be interesting to watch.

11. Almost none of the headlines qualify the conclusions.
Out of 211 headlines, these were the only ones that qualified it. All of the others were unequivocal - no link, no proof, cell phones safe.

12.  Microwave frequency still causes damage
Microwave radiation breaks molecular chains , and causes dna damage.
The Tobacco Industry bought science , but in time the truth came out. The same senario plays out here.

The Hayden Bill testimony in Sacramento has the testimony of many victims of cell phone brain tumors.

13. Yes, there's way too much evidence of danger for such a conclusion.

Child warning over mobile phones
Last year a 750-people study by Sweden's Karolinska Institute suggested using a mobile phone for 10 years or more increases the risk of ear tumours by four times.

A Dutch study has suggested mobile phone use can affect brain function, and further research from Europe indicated radiation from the phones can cause DNA damage.

Fresh fears over mobile phones
The two-year study concluded that even low-level emissions from handsets are damaging.

Scientists from the Radiation and Nuclear Safety Authority found that exposing human cells to mobile phone radiation damaged the blood-brain barrier - a safety barrier in the body that stops harmful substances in blood from entering the brain. They discovered that the exposure caused the cells in blood vessel walls to shrink which enabled molecules to pass into brain tissue.

Mobile Phone Radiation Harms DNA, New Study Finds

After being exposed to electromagnetic fields that are typical for mobile phones, the cells showed a significant increase in single and double-strand DNA breaks. The damage could not always be repaired by the cell. DNA carries the genetic material of an organism and its different cells.

"There was remaining damage for future generation of cells," said project leader Franz Adlkofer. This means the change had procreated. Mutated cells are seen as a possible cause of cancer.
