Missing U.S. soldier promoted to sergeant
Sunday, April 17, 2005 Posted: 7:16 AM EDT (1116 GMT)

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Spc. Keith Maupin, one of two Americans missing since their convoy came under attack near Baghdad International Airport in 2004, has been promoted to sergeant, the Army said Saturday.

The announcement came after an Army board of inquiry met April 6 to confirm Maupin's status as "missing-captured," his status since he disappeared April 9, 2004, when the fuel convoy he was riding in was attacked by insurgents near Baghdad International Airport.....

.....Maupin, with the 724th Transportation Company from Bartonville, Illinois, was classified "Duty Status: Whereabouts Unknown" after the enemy attack. On April 16, 2004, his status was changed to "Missing-Captured."...(more)

Ah, isn't that wonderful. How about now doing something that really matters, assholes - like finding him and bringing him home?

1. Maupin will be a CMS before the army ever sees him again
because Rice says the US doesn't negotiate with terrorists.

Uh, right.

2. It's nice of the insurgents to fill out fitness reports for him.

3. Actually
The Army doesn't use fitness reports, for promotion to Sergeant and Staff Sergeant, you usually appear before a local promotion board.

It's a point system, you get points for PT, marksmanship, civilian
education, military education, awards and decorations, performance,
and finally you get points from the promotion board.

So, with all of these standards in mind, I wasn't aware that his captors were within his chain of command.
