Admin. Urges High Court on Cheney Records

WASHINGTON -- Records of Vice President Dick Cheney's energy task force should remain confidential, the Bush administration told the Supreme Court on Tuesday, arguing that demands for disclosure present serious constitutional issues.

In a 25-page filing, the Justice Department's solicitor general urged the Supreme Court to consider "fundamental separation-of-powers questions" raised by a federal judge who says the Cheney panel should produce information about its operations.

The conservative Judicial Watch and an environmental organization, the Sierra Club, have filed suit, alleging that corporate executives and company lobbyists in effect became members of the Cheney panel that formulated the Bush administration's energy policy in 2001.

The administration says the "unsupported allegation" in the lawsuit is contradicted by the president's order creating the task force composed of members of his Cabinet.

1. no kidding, it SHOULD remain confidential!!
It's not like there was anything important in there, like details of Cheney's sex life :eyes:

<hopefully blatant sarcasm>

2. I just figured out an "out" for Cheney
Bush declares all those Oil & Gas industry executives "CIA secret operatives" and then Cheney can't release their names...

3. Separation of Powers
Funny, isn't it, that the argument used by DOJ of separation of powers turns out to be PRECISELY why this administration **needs** to be heeled in--they are too powerful as is, and need to be put back in their cage.

Reminds me of really good Reaganspeak.

8. the only secrets the administration keeps are their own cronies'.
they won't protect national secrets because they're too busy using them for political gain, but they sure protect their personal secrets.

9. Peak Oil. Wait and see.
I'm sure this task force report deals with Peak Oil, probably in 15 years. It's why we went to war, was planned as per PNAC, and will absolutely scare the public to death when and if it's revealed.

If the people even get a whiff of what's in that task force report, it will frighten people into a mass panic. I think this arguement will keep the report from being released.

They don't think we can handle the truth.

12. I'd bet good money that the Iraq war is mentioned in there
as in "we're taking out Saddam, so we'll have his oil".

That's why Cheney would rather die than have this shit made public.
