Texas Candidate Admits Using Twin as Stand-In
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=1896&ncid=1896&e=2&u=/nm/20050421/us_nm/politics_twin_dc

The leading candidate for mayor of San Antonio admitted on Thursday using his twin brother as a stand-in at a civic event without telling anyone it was not him.

Julian Castro, a 30-year-old city councilman, said brother Joaquin, his identical twin, rode for him in the annual River Parade through downtown San Antonio on Monday. Videos showed Joaquin smiling and waving to the crowd as he floated along the San Antonio River in a barge for city council members. "He was standing in the River Parade because I had to host a neighborhood leaders meeting," said Castro.

Polls show that Castro, who went to Stanford University and Harvard Law School, has a double-digit lead in the mayoral race that will be voted on May 7.

Castro said his brother, who is in the Texas legislature, was not impersonating him and would not have been mistaken for him.

8. I can't believe this made national news
Edited on Thu Apr-21-05 06:22 PM by Gman
My jaw dropped when I saw it on the CBS Evening News.

Just goes to reinforce the rock hard fact that San Antonio is the biggest small town you'll ever find.

p.s. I live in San Antonio and have all my life.

10. Hell, he could have sent me
After all, most people have little idea what their mayoral candidates look like anyway.

I actually think this whole story is hilarious. At least he was doing something important, rather than taking corporate lobbyists out to the golf course or something.

11. When I was a teacher
one of my best students had a twin.

One day she came to me and told me that yesterday he and her sister switched classes.

I thought it was cool. Didn't mind a bit. I guess if they weren't such excellent students I probably would have minded more, but if any kid checked out a different history class one day, it wouldn't ruin our society.

12. Why is this relevant?
:banghead:
It's not like he did anything but ride on a float in a parade..he didn't enact legislation or cheat anyone or take kickbacks or have ethics charges brought against him.
For God's sake--is this all they got?LOL.
They are really scraping the bottom of the barrel.
I couldn't find the info--but my guess is that Castro is a Dem and the pugs are trying to trash him?
Am I correct?

13. Since there was no mention of party, I assumed Republican.
That is usually the case when the media doesn't mention party affiliation, but I could be wrong. CNN had this on in the morning as well - they basically played it for laughs which made me think they were downplaying it since he was Republican. But, just an assumption on my part.

But it looks like you are right, he is a Democrat:

14. They must have seen that movie with Kevin Klein and Sigourney Weaver
Edited on Sat Apr-23-05 10:56 AM by rocknation
Klein played a small-town lawyer with a sideline--local businesses would hire him as a publicity stunt because he resembled the president. One night he comes home to find a pair of secret service agents in his living room, and is pressed into duty to impersonate the real president, who is in a coma. His initial assignement is to "smile and wave," but of course, it escalates--the media falls in love the president's "new image," not to mention first lady Sigourney. (Gets off her shiftless lazy ass and does her own research) It was titled Dave.
