Bush offers long-term ideas for energy woes
“I fully understand that many folks around this country are concerned about the high price of gasoline,” Bush said. “We're doing everything we can to make sure our consumers are treated fairly, that there is no price gouging.”

(I am calling BS on the "no price gouging" at least where I am.)

2. Of course there is price gouging.
That is because there is a lot of program-trading arbitrage on the oil commodity markets. But you can be sure that at every level, nasty shit is occurring. That's what happens when you deregulate markets like that, then turn your back. That is what the maladministration has done.

These are the people who laughed years ago when Carter put solar panels on the White House. Not so funny now. And of course you won't hear word one about giving up driving SUVs.

6. If his administration hadn't chopped the alternative energy research
... budget by over half when taking office, let Enron, Dynegy, etc. get away with murder in California then, and later made it sound like he had new programs to promote alternative energy, but in fact linked it's funding to getting ANWR drilling passed in congress (and it's funding dependent on revenue from ANWR taxes, etc.), then I wonder if we might have had some way of reducing our oil consumption more by now.

Peak Oil is happening NOW. We're going to see some bad crap soon when the effects of that are being felt. China and others are also seeing this and trying to make claim for much more of the oil that's left now too. We piss off more people like Venezuela with our foreign policy, reducing the dollars' strength more, we're heading for big problems soon.

8. A guy from Financial Times took this baby apart on NPR
He basically said, not ONE word about conservation, SUVs, improving fuel efficiency. It was all supply side, and zero demand side.

10. I heard that NPR bit as well
He was saying that the U.S. only has 3% of total world oil supply, but we use 25% of the world's supply. Any person with common sense would say, we need to start looking at alternative energy.

It would not only solve our problems on oil dependency, it could create millions of new jobs and opportunities for investment. But you don't even consider such things if you're an ex-Texas-oilman in bed with the Saudi's.

12. Bush & long term Ideas
Bush and "ideas" don't go together. The guy has no intelligence ,education and real world experience to have any vision or ideas about anything.
Most of the time the ideas or vision attributed to Bush in the media are fed to him by others and he has no clues about them.
He is an idiot and a moron. On his own I'd be surprised if he can rise above middle management at a Walmart or a Grocery store!!!
