Black Caucus Chief Won't Meet Bush (Turns down Request)
Politics - U. S. Congress

The chairman of the Congressional Black Caucus (news - web sites), complaining of being ignored by the White House in the past, turned down an invitation to meet with President Bush on Wednesday about Bush's recent Africa trip.

Several members of Congress were invited to the White House to be briefed by Bush on his five-nation, five-day trip.

"Mr. President, I need not remind you that the CBC's requests for meetings with you have gone unanswered for more than two-and-one-half years," Rep. Elijah Cummings (news, bio, voting record), D-Md., wrote in a letter declining the invitation.

The White House did not immediately return a call asking for comment.

28. Right on the money JoFerret
The pResident has been campaining since day one in the Oval Office. Meanwhile, the economy, 9/11 investigations, Iraq intelligence, peace in Iraq, the credibility of the US ad naseum are crumbling around him. Then again, what does he care as long as there are plenty of fall guys around a la Tenet?

This man is a total user. Bush isn't running this country he is using it. Why on earth would black people talk to or listen to Bush?

Why would ANYone agree to meet with SATAN!
The fellow is thanking his lucky stars and God's angels
that his prior requests for meetings were ignored-
He has obviously fingured out, just in time that
God was protecting him from LUCIFER!

9. After the Goree Island penning of black residents, Bush should be shunned
by every Black American. I have spread that story far and wide, how he had all the thousand residents rousted out of their homes at 6 a.m., before he arrived on the island, and incarerated in the local soccer stadium for around six hours until he had left the island, so he could make a speech about THE EVILS OF SLAVERY. How Powell and Rice could endorse that by their silence is the worst betrayal of their race I have ever seen.

17. WTF?!
Got a link for that? This is the first time I'm hearing about it. I completely ignored Chimpy's trip, the thought of that smirking prick stumbling over meaningless platitudes over there made my blood boil.

Leon Harris' report on CNN was profound and sincere, unlike duhbya.

10. Typical Opportunistic Repig BS.
I'm sure Rove wanted this meeting if for nothing else than to contrast to the story about the NAACP coming down on 3 Dem candidates this week over missing the NAACP forum. And, I'm sure that the talking points already went out on this to Lush, Sean Han(d)-job-itty and the rest.

Nothing seems to be going right for the cretins this week!

This is really refreshing - a straightforward, but ever-so-polite suggestion that Bush take his photo-op request and stick it right up his ass!!

Outstanding, Representative Cummings!

Oh, btw, does anyone else find it absolutely unbe-f*****g-lievable that Bush has turned down CBC requests for 2.5 mortal years?

15. I hold the CBC in the highest esteem
Let me make it clear that I do not agree with them all the time or with the African-American community (certainly their support of the Murderin' OJ was puzzling and distressing -- it seemed to me that they were asking for Equal Opportunity For Rich Guys of All Races to Get Away With Murder. Hooray.)

But I will never forget their courageous stand on Dec. 18th as they filed out of the now-Imperial Senate building. It was fitting and fair end to a 225-year-old Republic, if indeed it is ended. (NEVER GIVE UP!) It was a noble moment and I will never forget that they and only they were willing to stand up for the Old Republic.

Never forget.

26. Good for him!
The only reason that Bush wants to meet with the Black Community is that we are coming to the next election and he wants to put on a show of good faith for the public! He wants the masses to think that he cares about minorities!
I commend Congressman Cummings for not allowing himself to be used by this Disadministration!

Elijah Cummings is not an Aircraft Carrier......I mean a Political Prop!

and gave the best speech of any of the many indivduals who spoke to the caucus at the National Convention in chicago.

Americans are fortunate to have such an advocate of her caliber in the U.S. Congress fighting for social and economic justice.

I wish there was one other single demographic slice of Americana that had the courage, the conviction and the moral fiber that African-Americans do. Just one would be enough. Just one.
