Stocks Thumped Amid Profit Woes
http://www.msnbc.com/news/158521.asp?0cv=CB10

-SNIP-
DISHEARTENING RESULTS and less than dazzling forecasts prompted a sell-off in several sectors, notably health care and technology. Analysts said investors were feeling let down after a month of bidding stocks higher in anticipation of a robust quarter.

Yep, we've turned the corner folks, 200,000 jobs by spring :eyes:

3. Not Exactly True.
Edited on Wed Oct-22-03 03:52 PM by jayfish
Remember the last recovery actually started under Bush Sr. :eyes: and I don't remember seeing too many help wanted signs around then.

</sarcasm>

Man, I've never used :eyes: this much in one day. :eyes: seem rather fitting today though.

I guess I was thinking more about the 95-2000 era, when jobs were plentiful.

2. The Local Small Town wal-mart is cutting back hours

Oh there is still plenty of work to do it's just that Wal-mart treats the lower paid employees like a huge financial burden. Never mind these people are the ones move the freight and stock the shelves assist the customers. Upper management hasn’t cut back on their wages, but they are asking and ordering the grunts to go home early without pay. This should make the end of quarter payroll numbers look good to the suckers in the stock market.

That’s my take on it anyways.
Its all about image nowdays isn’t it?

9. Walmart info

During the California recall race, one of the runners in the race mentioned that Walmart gives out applications for food stamps when it hires people.

The next day on tv, I saw a show on the Forbes 500 wealthiest Americans, and the 4 Walmart heirs are solidly set at positions number 4-8.

Hmmm

6. Did you see YESTERDAY'S New York Times?
There was a big article on how earnings were going to soar this quarter, how we had turned the corner. One day later, a single day, 24 hours, the news is almost completely bad, with large companies reporting disappointing earnings. How could they be so far off? Do they really believe themselves?
