Attorney General Gonzales urges people to give Harriet Miers a chance

WASHINGTON Attorney General Alberto Gonzales is defending President Bush's nominee to the Supreme Court.

Gonzales tells A-B-C Harriet Miers will bring "a unique brand of experience" to the high court and that critics will feel comfortable when they get to know her.

Gonzales also says Bush "has a wonderful track record" in naming judges.

He says Miers is "uniquely qualified" and has "a diversity of experience." Gonzales repeats Bush's description of Miers as a candidate who believes in judicial restraint and "understands the proper role of a judge."

This woman's only qualifications are her willingness to do anything for Bush. They've already put one Bush insider on the Court (as Chief Justice) that backs the Bush/Gonzales view of Bush's wartime power to deny due process to anybody he designates, now they're going for another. It's all about loyalty to Bush, and nothing else. Somebody ought to ask Miers if she read/contributed to the torture memos. Ask her if she thinks the Commander in Chief can be held accountable under the Espionage Act.

I think we can measure Bush's level of desperation by the fact that he's abandoned political issues and is now just baldly trying to cover his own ass. Both Bush's picks are ringers, put there as a hedge against the future.
