(Jeb) Governor, 20 GOP legislators meet privately on education

TALLAHASSEE - Gov. Jeb Bush convened a meeting of 20 Republican legislators over coffee and pastry Tuesday to promote his education agenda - behind closed doors.

In a Capitol conference room, Bush compared schools under Democratic rule with the changes that followed his A-plus plan in 1999. They include Florida Comprehensive Assessment Tests, grading of schools, bonuses for improving schools and vouchers, the most hotly debated change and one now facing a legal challenge.

"I think we've had the most dramatic reforms in the country and a lot of new members have come in," Bush said. He said he wanted the lawmakers to learn the details, "so they can be part of an army of people who can defend it and advance it."

Bush defended holding a secret meeting with some of the Legislature's most influential members, saying there was no discussion of coming legislation.

"Not everything has to be open to the press," Bush said.

Once again Jeb is clearly violating FL Sunshine laws, but of course those laws never apply to him.

This is exactly the type of thing that got his boxers in a bunch last week - a brief, 10-minute meeting where a Dem asked to meet with the other Dems - and the Repukes decided to attend anyway.

And Arshinkoff held up the employee payroll because of the Dems' "dirty tricks" . . .

Everything in Florida is open to the press. We have one of the strongest Sunshine Laws in the country. bush has violated this law several times. This meeting was illegal!

but this is the same guy that revamped our entire school system at dinner on the back of a paper napkin and no one called him on it then. Makes you wonder what else he's done in violation of our Sunshine Laws?

7. Jeb the "Reformer"

Any state can dumb down the curriculum, especially the mandatory tests, so more kids "pass" with good grades. The fact that they are not learning what they could and should be learning is not part of Jeb's "plan". I can tell you from personal experience that the deep south, in general, has terrible school systems - in all respects - including teaching the Civil War as they wish it would have gone, and slanting the reasons for that war. Jeb, and many other southern "leaders", also want religion in all public schools - but it has to be their religion.
If you want your kid to be a good little republican and evangelical "christian", get them into a southern school. It is revisionism at its "finest".
