Bush hosted Ramadan dinner at White House mired in Islam controversy

WASHINGTON (AFP) - George W. Bush hosted a Ramadan dinner with US Islamic leaders, as the White House was besieged with demands to fire an army general whom made comments some say makes the US-led war on terror out to be a war on Islam.
<snip>
"Americans think terrorists are evil people who have hijacked a great religion," Bush said, responding to a reporter's question.
<snip>
"It is highly likely that Bush himself, a genuinely devout Christian by all accounts, agrees with at least some, perhaps much, of what Boykin said," the Post speculated.
<snip>
"Muslims are completely wrong to think that the US is engaged in a war against Islam," New York Times columnist Paul Krugman said. "But that misperception flourishes in part because the domestic political strategy of the Bush administration -- no longer able to claim the Iraq (news - web sites) war was a triumph, and with little but red ink to show for its economic plans -- looks more and more like a crusade."

---------------

uh, bushie, dear, you made a little comment there that may be true, but i think you've pointed out something that most of us haven't been able to put into words until now:

"Americans think right-wingers are evil people who have hijacked a great religion."

1. I'm sure it was Rove who was the 'Martha Stewart' diva of the evening.
He probably planned everything from soup to 'nuts'! But, he must have forgotten the proverbial 'turd in the punch bowl'.

3. One can only imagine the verbal gaffes made at this farce.

"a genuinely devout christian" who murders tens of thousands of Muslims for absolutely no reason save the enrichment of his friends and family. Evangelical christians are evil.

4. Sheesh
Harsh words, but true. Bush is a man with no principles. I think the first time I realized this was, after listening to his ranting and raving for months about "we'll go it alone (in Iraq), we don't need the rest of the world, we can handle it Macho Cowboy talk.

Then, when it became apparent that they weren't going to be able to pull it off "alone", I recall Bush saying on tv, "the more countries that are involved, the better it will be".

That's when I knew the Ole Bushmeister is just like a flag on a flagpole. Whichever way the wind doth blow, sure enough he turns in that direction too.

5. The Bush administration flies by the seat of it's pants
That's not how I like for a touchy foreign policy situation to be handled.
Not "let's change the story/intellegence to suit the situation". BS!

Why would any of these leader even show up? They probably had their water glasses picked up at the end of the evening and fingerprinted.
