NEW YORK The New York Times on the Web won three Online Journalism Awards and surprising upstart New West took home two at the Online News Association's 6th annual convention Saturday at New York City's Hilton Hotel.
NYTimes.com won the General Excellence award, Outstanding Use of Multiple Media for its "Class Matters" series, and Breaking News for "Asia's Deadly Waves," the Web site's coverage of the Indian Ocean Tsunami.
New West, a site that launched just eight months ago, won the General Excellence for small-category sites and an Enterprise award for its report, "Sex, Money and Meth Addiction."
Among large sites, Slate.com's Seth Stevenson won in the Commentary category for his "Ad Report Card." Slate's Mickey Kaus won a special recognition for his "Kausfiles," and Slate took the large category Enterprise award for its series, "What is Torture?"
