PM: Troops home when violence ends Oct 31 2005

British troops could be withdrawn from Iraq tomorrow if the violent insurgency ended, Prime Minister Tony Blair said.

Speaking after talks with the President of Kurdistan, Massoud Barzani, at 10 Downing Street, Mr Blair said the fight against insurgents in Iraq was part of the struggle against terrorism around the globe.

Supporters of democracy must be prepared to "carry that fight to whatever corner of the world those terrorists operate in", he said.

The day after a Pentagon report estimated the number of Iraqi civilians killed or wounded as a result of the insurgency at 26,000 since the start of last year, Mr Blair said he "regretted" every civilian death.

1. He's got it generally right, but the sequence is reversed.
The violence will end when the rebels have no US/UK troops available to attack.

3. Does this sound like children, or what?
"I'll stop pinching you when you stop pulling my hair!"

In fact, I broke up this stand-off just this weekend. Are adults supposed to be more mature?

What year was the last one without Violence?

(Tony, we now use BCE for the time period before 2005 years ago.)

It goes on and on my friends.

and they'll continue bombing things forever just because,

13. ....as he orders another 'UK soldier dressed in Arab garb' car bomb attack
The LAST thing Blair wants is for the retaliatory violence of the Muslims to end...how would he make his money? How would he land his job at Carlisle? Talk about biting the hand that feeds you!

15. I'm beginning to think the insurgents *want* our troops over there.
What better way to punish America for invading Iraq (part of the anti-Islamic Crusade) than to punish those who represent the military might of America? As long as troops are there, the insurgents will kill them. Each time they kill a soldier, a small piece of America dies.

They want to kill us there so they don't have to kill us here.

17. Your's or their's, Tony?
Iraqi security officials on Monday variously accused the two Britons they detained of shooting at Iraqi forces or trying to plant explosives. Photographs of the two men in custody showed them in civilian clothes.

When British officials apparently sought to secure their release, riots erupted. Iraqi police cars circulated downtown, calling through loudspeakers for the public to help stop British forces from releasing the two. Heavy gunfire broke out and fighting raged for hours, as crowds swarmed British forces and set at least one armored vehicle on fire.

Witnesses said they saw Basra police exchanging fire with British forces. Sadr's Mahdi Army militia joined in the fighting late in the day, witnesses said. A British military spokesman, Darren Moss, denied that British troops were fighting Basra police.

Perhaps in a way he did not intend, his prophecy may prove true,
