Michael Jackson: Don't Jail Music Downloaders
Well, we have one ally against the RIAA whores.

Michael Jackson: Don't Jail Music Downloaders
Pop Star Issues Statement To Congress

POSTED: 9:01 a.m. EDT July 22, 2003
UPDATED: 9:05 a.m. EDT July 22, 2003

Pop star Michael Jackson wants Congress to have a gentle hand in dealing with music downloaders.

Jackson has issued a statement opposing a bill introduced in the House that would make downloading copyrighted music a federal felony.

Jackson said he is "speechless about the idea of putting music fans in jail for downloading music."

2. and just when I thought....
Michael Jackson had fully crossed the bridge into insanity, he jumps back with the most obvious and sane argument in the whole debate thus far. That is of course, besides the arguments of millions of fans who will continue to download music, and will eventually get any law requiring jailtime struck down by a unanimous USSC decission regarding jailtime for downloading as "cruel and unusual."

4. I like Michael Jackson now
Michael certainly lives the life of an eccentric, but the people who are REALLY nuts are the greedy ego-induced psychotic assholes, like Lars of Metallica and Madonna, who want to see music downloaders *punished*, who have no problem with companies using Police State powers to turn their fans over for legal prosecution.

For Michael to lend his fame to this issue is admirable. Elizabeth Taylor was right all the time -- he IS a really decent, kind person underneath all that other stuff.

7. no problem with MJ
I myself never had a problem with MJ - he seems to me to be a painfully sensitive person, which is why he doesn't want to see kids jailed.

MJ with his love of technology probably relates to these kids.

9. Well I Think He's a Whack-Job
But at least he did give us two good albums (Off the Wall, Thriller). Come to think, I believe I may have downloaded "Don't Stop til You Get Enough," forever ago.

14. Thank you!
For me it was "Rock with you", but yes, those are the only 2 good MJ albums.

5. Send Them to Jacko's House For the Weekend
Unless that constitutes "cruel and unusual punishment".....

:-)

6. That's a start.
Now go back to being black, stop dressing your kids in Ala costumes, stop getting face jobs, become a BIT normal, and we're half way there to getting the old Jackson back!

10. Ernesto...
This, like the Kobe Bryant thread, is a discussion of current events. If the topic doesn't interest you, don't click the link. But why take the time and energy to post a 'who cares?' message?

Clearly, the people who post care.

11. This is FAR More Relevant Than Kobe Bryant
Unless you want to discuss how Byrant's accuser's identity is being spread all over the net.

12. Neither story....
is very relevant to the great political and social issues of the day. But it doesn't mean they're not interesting, or worthy of a litle discussion.

I just find it sorta insulting to be told what I should care about. Believe me, I can read a Michael Jackson or Kobe Bryant thread and STILL pay attention to bigger matters. YMMV.

13. MJ is Not Really the Issue
As much as trading and the attempt by record labels and radio to keep a stranglehold on what you hear. As one of the world's best-selling musicians, Jackson's opinion has some weight, even if he is an over-exposed, accused child molester.
