Rasmussen poll: Obama soars to a 10-point lead. NH Primary
Source: UnionLeader.com

A major national pollster says that Hillary Clinton has fallen well behind in New Hampshire after her third-place finish in Iowa.

Rasmussen Reports, in a telephone survey of 510 likely Democratic voters on Friday, found 37 percent backing Barack Obama, 27 percent for Clinton, 19 percent for John Edwards and 8 percent for Bill Richardson.

Rasmussen projects that 40 percent of the Democratic ballots will be cast by independents, not registered party members. The poll's admitted margin of error is 4.5 percent.

In Rasmussen's last New Hampshire polling, before Christmas, Clinton led Obama by 3 percent.

2. Great. The calcualting Hillary campaign is going to drop out and endorse Edwards
And than try to sabotage another Democratic Presidential campaign in hopes of being the front-runner in 2012. Clinton's going to take "her" money and make a run at it in 2012. thanks

13. No way & she would never endorse Edwards and Edwards would never
endorse Hillary. In fact, most of his supporters will go to Obama, as myself who has always been basically a supporter of both.

Edited on Sat Jan-05-08 02:03 PM by ckramer
Clinton voted YES for the Iraq war (yet has not admitted it's a mistake)

Edwards voted YES for the Iraq war (but has admitted it's a mistake)

This country has gone on a wrong direction since the invasion of Iraq.

8. Obama "sounded as strong as Clinton, as supportive as Bush, as friendly
Reviewing the speech, Ha'aretz Washington correspondent Shmuel Rosner concluded that Obama "sounded as strong as Clinton, as supportive as Bush, as friendly

as Giuliani. At least rhetorically, Obama passed any test anyone might have wanted him to pass. So, he is pro-Israel. Period."

Israel is "our strongest ally in the region and its only established democracy," Obama said, assuring his audience that "we must preserve our total commitment to our

unique defense relationship with Israel by fully funding military assistance and continuing work on the Arrow and related missile defense programs." Such advanced

multi-billion dollar systems he asserted, would help Israel "deter missile attacks from as far as Tehran and as close as Gaza." As if the starved, besieged and

traumatized population of Gaza are about to develop intercontinental ballistic missiles.

Obama offered not a single word of criticism of Israel, of its relentless settlement and wall construction, of the closures that make life unlivable for millions of

Palestinians.
Obama has VOTED FOR THE WAR!!! He has continued to FUND/VOTE FOR THE WAR since arriving to DC!

10. Don't you think at least part of her support was because she was
seen as the candidate in the lead? For sure the media pushed that idea -- even before she got into the race. So it doesn't surprise me to see that portion of the electorate anyway dropping away.

This will be interesting, for sure!

19. I hope not. Take a good look at Mr. Wonderful and you might
be surprised at what you see. If your looking as critically at him as your looking at Hillary your going to be surprised. Obama will not win the General Election. The repuks will slaughter him. Hillary would be the best thing to happen to us after this group of idiots leave. Don't blow it like you all did the last time. You beat up on Kerry and made a mockery of the election process. I wonder if you could be as pure as you all think you are if you had to make a real decision. A decision that would impinge on the nation.

Edited on Sat Jan-05-08 09:09 PM by rosebud57
unlike the analytical people on DU that poke and prod every comment or action of primary candidates, the GOP recognizes thatt the majority of the electorate gravitates to charisma.

If winning is the first thing, then it becomes the most important thing.

If you watched the speech in Iowa on caucaus night you saw raw charisma.

Obama will not win the general, you are dreaming. idiots? "Don't blow it like you all did the last time. In that case we do not want Hillary.

Independents want change, not the same old thing continuing.

The young want someone progressive and change from what we have had, not someone who continues to enable GWB.

33. Look Obama is not my candidate nor first choice. But you are
wrong that he doesn't have a chance to win. You simply don't realize the depth of hatred that people hold for Hillary, at least too many of them for her to win. He CAN win. He's not my first choice and I'm still not sure if I will even VOTE (okay don flame suit).

Just like people are quite wrong to discount The Huckster. He is dangerous, even if he doesn't play in NH he WILL play in the heartland, wait and see.

Having said that - I think Obama is in there and isn't going anywhere. Although I don't agree with him on many points he is young and smart and I think someone the country will get behind.

If it were anyone but Hillary...................

27. Rasmussen is always flaky about when they put their numbers up.
Personally, I often feel they hold back if they don't like the numbers, and then put out a bunch when the picture ends with what they want. For instance, they seem to hold back when shrub's numbers are down, and then put out several days ending with shrub up a bit. Also, their sample probably tends to be conservative: shrub's approval ratings run 5 to 8 points above other polls.

I don't have a subscription . . . maybe one gets better numbers with a sub?

37. um, is this the Du or a horseracing site?
I think people are overstating the importance of Iowa. Winning Iowa is not winning the election.

And let me get this straight - Obama's a LANDSLIDE now based on picking up a single national delegate more than Edwards, and Clinton is out becasue she lost by SEVEN state delegates to Edwards in iowa?

Face it people, you like to write stories and novels, and not NEWS. The NEWS is that it's a close race. The STORY and or BOOK/MOVIE is that 'the UNDERDOG" is going to knock out the calculating witch.

16 to 15 to 14 is not a LANDSLIDE.

Y'all are as bad as Chris Matthews.
