McCain Warns: There will be other wars
Edited on Sun Jan-27-08 05:17 PM by roguevalley
Source: Huffington Post

The presidential candidate who sang "Bomb bomb Iran" is already looking towards the war after the war in Iraq.

Sen. John McCain told a crowd of supporters on Sunday, "It's a tough war we're in. It's not going to be over right away. There's going to be other wars." Offering more of his increasingly bleak "straight talk," he repeated the claim: "I'm sorry to tell you, there's going to be other wars. We will never surrender but there will be other wars."

McCain did not elaborate who the United States would be fighting. But he did warn the crowd to be ready for the ramifications of current and future battles.

"And right now - we're gonna have a lot of PTSD to treat, my friends," he said. "We're gonna have a lot of combat wounds that have to do with these terrible explosive IEDs that inflict such severe wounds. And my friends, it's gonna be tough, we're gonna have a lot to do."

54. As a Veteran....
.... I admire those who find other, more useful ways to serve their country. These days, those who devote time to reclaiming our democracy, our Constitution and the Rule of Law are the men and women who get my respect and admiration. I spent six years in the service, '68-'74, and can tell you with absolute certainty that probably 80% of enlisted and drafted knew Viet Nam was an immoral and trumped up invasion of a country that we had no business being in. I see Iraq as the same situation, only worse... we learned nothing from Viet Nam.
Tell your brothers that it takes more than a uniform to make one a true patriot. As for Maddog McCain: friends, he is just one more old, fading one-time "hero" who has never forgotten his "glory years". I'm firmly convinced that McCain wants to go out in a blaze of military glory to make up for his failures while in the Navy. I never did see him as a hero... he did, after all, royally screw up in getting shot down. Becoming a prisoner of war is just one consequence of being in the military that you are trained for... and not a good one. Ask any general - POW's only limit their options, and drag down the efficiency of their ops. Sounds callous, but getting captured is just a negative all the way around to the military mind. They won't admit it, but it is a fact.
Keep working to reclaim our country... that commands respect from this vet.

13. He is electable, regardless of the crazy things he says
Because the media keeps spinning this baseless narrative of him as a straight-talking, moderate maverick with broad appeal. They keep saying these buzz words over and over again.

They never mention that he completely sold out in '04 or that, as the YouTube video from the other day shows, has flip-flopped several times on his bread and butter issue (foreign policy and military intervention).

24. If McCain/Leib is a running republican ticket
We are in big trouble. Not only is this country so full of apathetic people, we have the most dangerous kind of people in tremendous numbers: those who believe what they hear on tv. They will believe that McCain will do what they hoped Bush would do, and vote their party once again. I've been unlucky enough to live with and near these kind of people my whole life. They see themselves as good Christian people who are responsible and believe the good in others. To go any further and investigate the truth for themselves would be like questioning "good people", reasoning "Why would they doubt these people, they have good intentions" blah blah. Meanwhile they vote over and over against their own needs and benefits.

It's truly remarkable to witness. Even if they are sharply affected, unless they UNDERSTAND how that came to be, they will do it again. It takes investigation for the truth to find out why they have their loophole in their insurance, or why their kids can't afford to live in a home, meet the bills, etc. although they are working 60 hours a week. It says the economy is fine and unemployment is low (on the news, "heck even the president says so") and the liberal news would call it out if it weren't true, so it must be. Oh, it just goes on forever.

We have a country full of these types, and they will jump at the chance to vote the party, because they are the party of family values, and that is how they see themselves. It's psych ops on the average American.

parts for the weapons he is going to use to fight these wars?

Isn't he at least going to declare peace long enough to restore our treasury and revive our underlying economy before he goes on another crazy rampage of killing?

Doesn't he get the fact that the country is having serious economic problems, that we don't manufacture anything -- not even parts for the airplanes our military buys?

The Republicans need to get in touch with reality. Where are they living? In the clouds?

61. Yeah, let's pour another trillion dollars
Of our country's money into another bogus war. If this clown gets elected, the US will not be the richest and most powerful country for very long. It's going to take decades to undue the damage of President Moron as it is.

The Project for a New American Century who has also endorsed him this time. In fact he was the first choice way back then of many if not most neocons. They only gravitated toward Bush when his 2000 primary campaign fizzled out.

And he very much is in the neocon camp now:

This article by Sidney Blumenthal:

"As the neoconservatives abandoned Bush's sinking ship, McCain welcomed them aboard. "McCain began reading the Weekly Standard and conferring with its editors, particularly Bill Kristol," the New Republic magazine reported. And he hired a board member of the neocon Project for the New American Century, Randy Scheunemann, as his foreign-policy aide.

McCain positioned himself as consistently belligerent, even to Bush's right: in favour of bombing Iran and North Korea. He also proposed a "surge" of troops into Iraq, an idea gleaned from the neocons. If Bush had adopted the Iraq Study Group approach of diplomacy and redeployment, which McCain had assailed as "dispiriting", the right would have hailed McCain as a prophet with honour. However, importuned by the same neocons who had sold it to McCain, Bush seized upon the "surge". "

74. This is not good. I fear he might be tapping into something...
Over the past 7 years Americans have been so conditioned to death, war, sacrifice, inevitability, hopelessness, and threats, that McCain might know exactly what he's doing.

Revenge? Death wish? Who knows.
