Area Company To Slash 800 Jobs (Diebold-OH)

NORTH CANTON, Ohio -- North Canton-based Diebold said Wednesday it plans to cut about 800 jobs, or about 5 percent of its global work force.

That cost cutting is tied to deteriorating credit markets within the U.S. banking industry.

The company noted hard times for banks that may result in reduced capital investment in branch construction.

Diebold is a maker of ATMs, business security systems and voting machines.

It expects to make cuts in North America, Brazil and western Europe, with about 50 at or near its Ohio headquarters.

Diebold meanwhile released estimates of delayed revenue totals. But its long delayed revenue and earnings financial reports have yet to be released.
