White House admits pre-war e-mails not archived
Source: Rawstory

The White House does not have archival copies of e-mails exchanged between administration officials during the weeks leading up to President Bush's decision to invade Iraq nor for the first two months of the war there, according to a just-released filing concerning millions of e-mails alleged to have gone missing or been deleted.

"A White House declaration filed late last night ... makes the stunning admission that the White House failed to preserve ANY backup tapes for the period March 1, 2003 through May 22, 2003...

16. As a network administrator that deals with the same server they are lying
those tapes are still around or they were destroyed on purpose. They use microsoft exchagne server for their communications. I've work with this server on a daily basis. If it was configured to archive emails, which it clearly was since they have archived emails from before that period, they somebody intentionally stopped the archive from taking place or destroyed the archive afterwards. There is absolutely no way in hell that this was accidental. But they will get a pass on this from the media and from congress.

19. Calling all Techies!
Am I wrong in thinking that regardless of backup tapes, that the emails or many could be recovered from servers and harddrives in general (or for specific individual)? Also wasn't their another abnormality in that RNC email adresses were uused for WH emails? This stinks but so does much of the last 8 years.

Somebody knows the policies and procedures in place at the time. There is no way that this was an accidental deletion.

There only needs to be one person to actually do this, regardless of
how many (probably a very small number anyway) were on the technical
staff at that time.

I wonder how many unfortunate car accidents, holiday misadventures
and suicides there have been in the intervening years ...?

20. Doing what is right for what is right sake is alien to most of Congress

I think people hold the myth that public servants actually serve the public. Most just serve their own interest. Only when the people FORCE them to do the right thing will they do the right thing. And, a large percentage of people in this country haven't a single clue.

The American experiment of democracy is over. Fascist corporations rule the country and the world. They will, of course, the cycle of history repeating. We can only pray their is enough time left for the cycle to swing the other way, and the human race survives in some form.

That was a GOP mantra during the impeachment of Bill Clinton.

That must mean that all Republicans in Congress would vote right now to impeach and convict Dubya for breaking the law in order to cover up Administration actions lying us into war, right? LOL!!!

25. Next week's headline: "White House admits post-war e-mails not archived"
Why the hell would they save the e-mails? If they did, things like...oh, that Saddam was cooperating as fully as he possibly could...might surface. That would be bad.

The pre-war runup was pretty astounding, because it seems that Bush wanted shit you knew Saddam couldn't produce.

39. They need to publish the names of all email admins and their IT managers
involved.

To not retain these records is criminal. The people involved with the maintenance of these servers should be in prison, but I would settle for never being allowed near a computer again. If I were a hiring manager, I'd be checking names on resumes against that list.

> Yeah, but, the TELECOM companies should have copies . . . right?????
> By any chance, were they specifically told not to not "catch" any of
> the GOP material?

No need to be so inventive about a GOP-specific filter ... not only
would there be no need for the information to leave the servers involved
(i.e., never going across the telecom companies network) but it would
be a serious breach of security if they *did* get a copy as this would
imply that they have access to every single document transmitted ...

No, this is a simple case of "Oops, I deleted it ... how sad" followed
either by a suitable bonus or (more likely) a tragic & unexpected death.

43. The fact that they didn't archive this stuff tells all
Nixon recorded his conversations because he thought it would be his mark on history. It was just not the way he intended.

These assholes knew anything they said or did would be their mark on history and didn't want the evidence to be used against them

The criminal intent is right in front of everyones nose yet nothing is done about it.
