Curtis Sliwa says he might run for Vito Fossella's Congressional seat
Source: NY Daily News

With Republicans struggling to find a replacement for the disgraced Rep. Vito Fossella, Curtis Sliwa thinks he may have found the GOP's perfect angel - himself.

The WABC radio talk show host and Guardian Angels founder said Wednesday he'd be willing to run for the 13th Congressional District seat - which covers Staten Island and parts of Brooklyn - if no one from the district steps forward.

...snip...

"I can be the fail-safe guy," Sliwa told the Daily News, a day after he made his willingness clear in a letter to Staten Island GOP Chairman John Friscia.

Local Republican leaders said a Sliwa bid was worth considering - provided the straight-talking, beret-wearing radio host isn't just trying to boost his ratings.

3. He is no where near the angel he promotes himself to be.
In fact we ran the Guardian Angels out of Baltimore. They were thugs just like any other street gang.

11. Staten Island Democrats Choose a Councilman as Their Candidate for Fossella’s Seat (NY-13)
Source: NY Times

The Staten Island Democratic Party voted on Wednesday night to endorse City Councilman Michael E. McMahon as its choice for the Congressional seat being vacated by Representative Vito J. Fossella, a Republican.

Mr. McMahon, who has represented the North Shore of Staten Island for the last seven years, said he had already received the support of the Brooklyn Democratic Party leader, Assemblyman Vito J. Lopez, as well as other Democratic elected officials who had considered running for the seat. The district includes all of Staten Island and portions of Brooklyn.

...snip...

The most contentious issue facing Mr. McMahon is the presence in the race of a fellow Democrat, Stephen A. Harrison, a Brooklyn lawyer who ran against Mr. Fossella two years ago on the Democratic line and did better than any previous challenger, winning 43 percent of the vote.

Mr. Harrison has made it clear that he would remain in the race, despite any decision made by party leaders. Mr. Harrison was defiant after Wednesday night’s meeting, calling Mr. McMahon an “opportunist” who had entered the race only after Mr. Fossella had announced his decision. In contrast, Mr. Harrison said, he had been a candidate when Mr. Fossella had been expected to run again.

9. I KNOW him!!
The Guardian Angels are attempting to move into Canada and he's up here for some meetings.

He's actually rather nice, urbane and personable to talk to. Wish I could say the same about his followers.

10. " ... In 1979 and 1980, Sliwa's "angels" invented at least six incidents, catapulting themselves
... into the public eye.

They rescued a purse containing $300 and belonging to "Miss Kelly," a church-going elderly woman. They fought off six would-be rapists, and Sliwa tackled one resembling a "6-foot-6 gorilla." They thwarted an assault on a subway platform and became victims of hate vandalism when racist graffiti appeared on the walls of their headquarters. All dutifully reported by journalists, all fabricated by Sliwa.

For the capstone finale, Sliwa said he was kidnapped in 1980 by four Transit Authority police officers and threatened for four hours.

Never happened, he admitted 12 years later. This was right after he was kidnapped and shot five times — really — before jumping out of the window of a stolen taxi. Sliwa says the culprits were hired by John Gotti Jr. (whose father Sliwa had insulted on his radio show). Gotti Jr. was tried three times, each trial ending in a deadlocked jury; then the charges were dropped ...

12. At Gotti Trial, Sliwa Tells of Stretching Truth for Attention
By ANEMONA HARTOCOLLIS
Published: February 28, 2006

... He or his troops claimed — falsely, Mr. Sliwa said yesterday — to have rescued a woman's purse with $300 in it from a purse snatcher, fended off a rapist, and foiled an assault on a subway platform. In the purse snatching, he said, his sister posed as the victim.

He also falsely claimed to have been harassed by the police or others, he said. He described one time in which he wrote "KKK" on the walls of his apartment because he was being threatened with eviction ...

Mr. Sliwa said he had reported being kidnapped twice before ... In 1980, he said, he falsely claimed that transit police officers in plainclothes abducted him, then dropped him off in a Jones Beach parking lot after warning him to stop his anticrime activities ...

But in 1981, he said, he was kidnapped — for real — by men posing as police officers in Washington ... His abductors, he said, .. tossed him into .. the river. He said he did not file a formal police report ...

" ... Mr. Sliwa now said, for example, that he invented a tale of having been kidnapped by ..
... Transit Authority police officers in 1980 ...

Mr. Sliwa said it was simply a matter of determining what reporters wanted and how to deliver it when they needed it. "Once you figure it out," he said, "it doesn't take that much of a creative mind to do it."

Mr. Sliwa said the responsibility should be shared by some of the reporters who covered him. It would not have been too hard, he said, for them to check out his stories by going, for example, to the places where he said things had happened and asking questions. "Maybe visit," he said. "Maybe snoop around."

"They didn't have to be expedient," Mr. Sliwa said.

14. Man it pisses me off when the media labels any Republican a "straight talker".
These people wouldn't tell the truth to save their lives. How any fucking media outlet could get away with spewing such garbage after the last 8 years is ridiculous.
