Hagel (R-Ne) says he won't run for vice president

Source: Omaha World Herald

Sen. Chuck Hagel, R-Neb., said today that he does not intend to run for vice president on either party's ballot this fall - and does not expect to be part of whichever new administration takes over.

"I don't intend to be and don't expect to be on any ballot this year," said Hagel, who considered running for the Republican nomination last year before deciding against entering the race.

"I don't intend to be or expect to be in any administration next year," he said. "I expect to be back in the private sector. I hope I will still have the opportunity to try to influence the country a little bit."

6. Very glad to hear it. We needn't worry about handsome with grandpa.
People who vote McLame obviously don't care about someone's voting record, so they'd just see Chuck's good looks next to pasty McLame.

7. Two points
1. the chances of Hagel running with McCain were at most .01%
2. I would not call him particularly handsome, unless you find smarts appealind (which I do :-)).

8. Sounds like he's leaving the door open to the possibility.
"I don't plan to..."

"I expect..."

Classic vague statements for someone who isn't yet ready to slam the door on the thought.

9. Short video clip
where he says basically the same thing, but with categorically, at least to my ears (I like Hagel, and would like to see him in a meaningful cabinet post). He also comments on McClellan. http://www.kptm.com/Global/story.asp?S=8396847&nav=menu606_1_1
