County rolls swell with young voters, new Democrats
Source: The Daily Camera

Young people have rushed to register to vote in Boulder County over the past three months, swelling the ranks of Democrats and independents, whose gains swamped those made by Republicans.

A Camera analysis shows that 12,734 people under the age of 26 signed up to vote between July 27 and Oct. 28. In late July, that demographic made up 13 percent of the voter rolls. Today, they comprise 18 percent, a big jump.

Older voters were less likely to register to vote, and their share of the population has fallen since July. The 45-to-65 age bracket made up 39 percent of registered voters just three months ago; now they're down to 36 percent.

Overall, county voter rolls grew by 29,034 people in the past three months, a jump of 18 percent.

1. After rushing out to register young people must most importantly VOTE!!!
Good news for Democrats, from what I have read, is that the party for whom a person votes for the first time they cast a vote will establish their party support for years to come.

You bag on the youth vote but when I went to vote it was 90% younger the 30 here in Boulder, and the wait was about an hour.

4. Young voters are notoriously unreliable.
I'm worried that they will feel like its "in the bag" so there is no need to stand in a line to vote on Tuesday.

7. Amazing how no one over 35 is ever complacent, and always come through
I'm so sick of hearing youth voters stereotyped on du.

Durrr, we're too busy checking our myspace and OMG text messaging on the internets to go vote!

8. Young people are sure talking, much more than ever, like they are going to vote.
And there is the Obama ground game . . . and if they don't turn out and McCain wins, I wish them all the luck in the world 'cause they'll be stuck with it. Not me as I'm too damned old.
