KAMPALA (AFP) - - The Ugandan army on Sunday accused Lord's Resistance Army (LRA) rebels of hacking to death 45 people in a church in northeastern Democratic Republic of Congo.

An aid official speaking to AFP on condition of anonymity confirmed Friday's massacre, saying the killings took place in a Catholic church in the Doruma area, around 40 kilometres (25 miles) from the Sudanese border.

"There are body parts everywhere. Inside the church, the entrance and in the church compound," the aid official said.

"We got information the rebels cut 45 people into pieces," added army spokesman Captain Chris Magezi.

1. Which of Kony's beloved Commandments inspired this?
I'll (slightly) forgo the usual "but Christianity is a religion of peace!" remark, since they have clearly gone over whatever constitutes as a 'deep end' on the scale long ago.

2. I don't see why you jumped on this to show your intolerance of religion.

I do know what that mentality can lead to. Chopping up people in a church.

5. Same here

Kony was due to meet with some delegation of Ugandans weeks ago, then blew off the whole thing and there were even thoughts that he had killed himself (no link on this, and I am suspicious of the claim). I suppose this is his response to the peace talks? Or, they realize that killing people in Congo is fashionably The New Black and do not want to miss out..

6. I don't know...
I just remember thinking that defections and combat casualties had ended the LRA as a functioning group.

I guess not.

8. BBC link. k&r for people who have had enough hacking and killing
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/africa/7802804.stm
Uganda's army has accused the Lord's Resistance Army rebels of hacking to death 45 civilians in a Catholic church in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Capt Chris Magezi said the scene was "horrendous... dead bodies of mostly women and children cut in pieces". The attack happened on 26 December.

A rebel spokesman has denied responsibility for the killings, which follow a collapse in the peace process.

The UN says at least 189 people were killed in several attacks last week. Some reports say more than 100 people were killed in the church alone....
