Greek guerrillas claim police shooting, other attacks

ATHENS, Jan 14 (Reuters) - Greece's most militant left-wing guerrilla group claimed responsibility on Wednesday for the shooting of a policeman last week and two other attacks, police sources said.

The Revolutionary Struggle urban guerrillas said in a pamphlet sent to a weekly publication they were behind the shooting, which left a 21-year-old police officer seriously wounded, as well as an attack on a police bus in December and the foiled bombing of Shell's headquarters in Athens.

"The anti-terrorist squad has gone to the Pondiki weekly's offices and is investigating," police spokesman Panagiotis Stathis told Reuters.

The Jan. 5 shooting of a riot policeman guarding the Culture Ministry followed Greece's worst rioting in decades in December, triggered by the police killing of a teenager and fuelled by anger at government scandals and economic hardship.

Also, it could be the truth.

All ideologues have the potential for violent actions in the face of perceived\real oppression. There have been many examples of leftists trying to throw off the yoke of the oppressors for good reason - many times with violence. Sometimes blood must be shed for change to occur. I am not advocating - just pointing out.

Immediately denouncing information as 'right wing propaganda' is sort of myopic.
