Toronto hotel workers authorize a strike

Unionized workers at 32 Toronto hotels have voted to authorize a strike if contract negotiations break down – a disruption that could jeopardize the comfort of G20 world leaders and other summit guests.

Hotel workers voted 94 per cent in favour, according to a message posted to Unite Here Local 75’s Twitter account Thursday morning.

Almost every hotel room in Toronto is booked during the G20, which will be held in Toronto on June 26-27.

Strike authorization votes by some 5,500 workers were taken at 32 Toronto hotels over the last three weeks, the union said.
