College degree linked to health insurance
Source: UPI

Earning a college degree may make the difference for women in getting health insurance, compared to those with a high-school degree, U.S. researchers said.

Lead author Roberta Wyn of the University of California, Los Angeles, said the study found women without a high-school diploma were nearly four times more likely to be uninsured as women with a college degree.

Wyn and colleagues found that in California in 2007, 2.5 million women ages 18-64 were uninsured at some time of the year.

The study found 75 percent of women with a college degree had health insurance from an employer, compared with 49 percent of those with a high-school degree and 23 percent of those who had not graduated high school.

1. I wish the "women" part were in the headline.
This makes a lot of sense to me. There are still jobs in some parts of the country that offer health insurance without a college degree (union trades and some crafts), but those are traditionally male and a lot of women wouldn't think to try to get a job like that, for a variety of reasons. You see a lot of divorced women, though, who have kids and need health insurance and go for those kind of jobs.

3. study should read: college profs say please come to college.
I get cynical whenever I read about college profs trying to line their own pockets by fooling more people to go to college.
