Rahm to Yachting BP CEO: Stay out of PR
Source: ABC News

In an EXCLUSIVE interview on This Week, White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel had some career advice for BP CEO Tony Hayward: Stay out of PR.

...

“Well, to quote Tony Hayward, he’s got his life back, as he would say,” Emanuel said with a smile. “And I think we can all conclude that Tony Hayward is not going to have a second career in PR consulting. This has just been part of a long line of PR gaffes and mistakes.”

“But, beyond that photo,” Emanuel explained, “there’s really a substance here that matters. That’s clearly a PR mistake, but he’s made a number of those mistakes. What’s important is: are we capping the well? Are we capturing the oil? Are we containing the cleanup? Are we filing the claims? Are we also cleaning up the mess? That’s what’s important.”

Emanuel said the new Hayward photos would be “fodder” and that “people will chew over this,” but he insisted that important thing was “dealing with the problems down in the well and dealing with the problems in the region.”

8. "Are we containing the cleanup?" - actually those are 2 separate things there Rahm... that explains
a lot.

maybe they don't recognize that containment, and cleanup, are 2 separate processes, but even more important, that they are CRITICAL, too (not just stoping the gusher)

=(

10. Pot, let me introduce you to kettle
I smell the stench of Emanuel in all of Obama's false starts, tepid statements, and indecisiveness on the Gulf calamity.

IMO the single best move the President could make is to stuff this piece a shit in the leaky well along with James Carville.

11. Until I read the entire article above, I was wondering why the heck
Emanuel was telling Tony Hayward to stay out of Puerto Rico. I'm kinda slow on the uptake sometimes.:silly: (Janice goes d'oh!).

12. Bullshit....
"What’s important is: are we capping the well? Are we capturing the oil? Are we containing the cleanup? Are we filing the claims? Are we also cleaning up the mess? That’s what’s important.”

He left out one of the most crucial elements: criminal prosecutions. Such prosecutions are of extreme importance. It is the ONLY thing that will (1) serve as a deterrent, and (2) provide the populace with some sense that the justice system applies to the rich and powerful as well as the poor.

13. Rahm's Right
I know no one should defend Hayward, but don't people see that this focus on the yacht thing or the gaffes is just another excuse for the media to NOT talk about the stuff that really matters. How many times have they harped on about Haliburton or the MMS or Dick Cheney's role in this?

16. If Puerto Rico DOESN'T want Hayward to dock there, that would be one thing
but I don't see how it would be any of Rahm's business.
