Tropical storm forms in Caribbean
June 26, 2010 @ 6:42 am › jkavcnn

The National Hurricane Center at 5 a.m. ET  upgraded Tropical Depression One to Tropical Storm Alex.

The storm was 220 miles east of Belize, moving west-northwest toward Belize and Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula with maximum sustained winds of 40 miles per hour.

If the storm moves into the Gulf of Mexico, it could seriously hamper efforts to collect oil spilling from BP's damaged Deepwater Horizon rig.

5. The current path is about as good a could be hoped for.
It stays west of the oil and gives drenching summer rain to an area starting to get dry again.

2. Glad I got hurricane shutters early this year.
I live on the east coast of Florida, but with things kicking up this early, it almost feels inevitable that I'll get hit (again).

They were much more affordable than expected, and putting them up is way, way easier than plywood. Of course, not much we can do for the roof, which did my first house in by way of collapse. Just have to hope. :)

Been through so many of these storms now. I'd think it strange that I actually enjoy sitting on the porch and watching them, if my aunt didn't do the exact same thing.
