Several explosions have been heard in Baghdad.
Smoke is rising from inside the Green Zone, the sealed-off neighborhood used by the U.S.-led coalition as headquarters.
The military has no immediate word on the cause of the blasts.
Fresh violence and more casualties are being reported throughout Iraq.
An Iraqi doctor said a donkey cart filled with explosives blew up just moments after a U.S. military convoy went past it. He said 10 Iraqis were killed and 20 injured in the incident near the town of Baqouba. No U.S. casualties were reported in that incident.
In the nearby town of Samara, witnesses said gunmen in passing cars fired on a car, killing three men. They said the men worked as translators for American forces and had been branded traitors.
South of Baghdad, the Iraqis said several attackers with rocket-propelled grenades fired at U.S. military vehicles. They said U.S. troops shot back, killing three attackers. The others fled.
And on the outskirts of Baghdad, insurgents fired on a fuel truck, starting a huge fire.
