David Horowitz Bill Proposed In California ("Academic Bill of Rights")
Academic bill of rights proposed to protect diverse thought

By: BRUCE KAUFFMAN - Staff Writer

SAN MARCOS ---- Saying that students are too often being punished on college campuses for being free thinkers, state Sen. Bill Morrow on Thursday proposed a bill aimed at protecting academic freedom in California.

The Oceanside Republican said the measure opens a new front in a "revolutionary war" for academic freedom in the United States. He said that curbs on "honest debate" on too many campuses systematically deny California students a "full education."

Morrow, who represents parts of North County and south Orange County, said that students are being humiliated and harassed for insisting on "thinking for themselves."

Details of his proposal, Senate Bill 1335, are yet to be filed in formal language. It is set for a hearing in the Senate Education Committee on April 21, he said.

2. Nowhere in this press release do they mention David Horowitz
This is one of the most biased "articles" ever written. It's like they just printed a press release from the right wing directly without even editing it.

8. It may not *say* Horowitz
...but that is who/what is behind it - same organization/same Republican political MO.

These sh*ts are staging uprisings at colleges and universities in my area as well. When one of the professors confronted one of the little weasels with the *fact* that they are associated with Horowitz's org, he flipped his lid and went off on her...

Don't let them fool you - this IS a political move to censor our colleges and universities and to 'vet' and apply litmus tests to faculty based on their personal political leanings and beliefs.

MORE fascist bu$hit...(at least some of bu$hit's friends)

10. They Can Always Legislate By Inititaives
This subject seems reasonable enough on its face to be widely accepted, don't be surpised if the fickle Cali voters actually put this through.

11. We had to destroy academic freedom in order to save it.
Next he'll want to protect civil liberties by banning the ACLU.

12. How to Ruin Horowitz' Bill...
...convince a few legislators to write or amend the proposed law that would put language in that specifes protections for atheist and agnostic students -- the original "free thinkers" (let's not forget that today's conservatism is not "free thinking" but lock-step, talking-point, social-engineering, corporatist-miltarist-protecting doctrine).

That oughta miff Horowitz and his proto-fascist, Xtian-Taliban-coddling friends.

13. "protections for atheist and agnostic students"
Great idea! Maybe they should add some
protections for pro choice advocates.

:nopity: if they're such 'free-thinkers' then why do they need a law to protect them when "thinking for themselves?" :nopity:
